I LOVE Zurich. It
is a beautiful, clean, fun city. This was the first city that we visited after
landing. We landed in the morning, got our luggage, went to the hotel and
showered and changed after traveling all night. The river runs right through
the city and into a lake near the edge of the city. The water is so clear and
blue. It is really fun to hear my dad have conversations in German with other
people, but almost all the people that live in Zurich speak English, which was WAY nice. After changing and walking
around for a while we were hungry for lunch so we went to this classic Swiss
restaurant. The inside had wood paneled walls and was decorated with old war
memorabilia (i.e. weapons.) I got this dish that was essentially a hash brown
cake with veal and a gravy sauce because on the menu it declared “A must have
when in Zurich!” The description may make it sound gross, but it was actually
really good! I was very pleasantly surprised.
After lunch we decided to walk the river to the lake and
then walk around one edge of the lake (the lake is huge.) The old buildings
that sit on the rivers edge are exactly how I imagined Switzerland. One of my
favorite things was the flowers that are just outside the windows and hang over
the ledge. Like the one in this picture…
There were tons of sailboats sitting on the lake, which just
made the lake even more picturesque. As we walked we passed lots of little
rowing clubs that surrounded the perimeter of the lake and were in the cutest
buildings.
And one thing about the Swiss… they know how to make some dang good chocolate. Holy cow, I was
blown away. We went into this great little chocolate shop called Läderach- it
was chocolate heaven. They had this one raspberry chocolate that was DIVINE. I will never appreciate a
KitKat or any Hershey’s chocolate bars after eating that goodness. Here is some
proof… (and this was only one counter)
After eating a lot of chocolate we went back to our hotel to
get ready for dinner. What did I find on my pillow when I got to my room? Even
more proof that the Swiss have their priorities straight…
Here is a list of some of my favorite things about Zurich:
--When they give you a bottled
drink (which is all the drinks) they give you a cup and pour it into it for
you.
--The buildings are absolutely
beautiful; they are the perfect mix of old and new
--The Swiss flag is everywhere
--The garbage trucks are Mercedes
(like what?)
--The chocolate (as obviously stated above)
And
now for more pictures…
